Glass remains one of the most popular building materials with several versatile applications. However, despite the many benefits of this material, it also has a significant limitation as being a vulnerable point for vandalism or intruder entry into your property. Glass also presents a significant threat of injury when accidents or damages occur. A good workaround for these limitations is to get your glass window tinted with safety window films. This material helps to enhance the safety and reliability of your regular glass window. It is an efficient way to strengthen your window against break-ins, accidents, and vandalism. Some safety films also have protective properties and can keep UV and infrared rays out of your building.

What Are Safety Films Made Of?

Window Safety films consist of one or more layers of polyester material laminated with special adhesives. The thickness of this type of film can vary between 4mm to 15mm or even higher. Generally, thicker films are considered more substantial and durable and less susceptible to various damages. The thinner films are primarily used for their solar protective ability. However, modern safety films made with nano-tech may even be more substantial than thicker films.

Benefits Of Safety Film Installation

Many safety films offer the benefits of conventional window tints and some specialized benefits for safety and protection. Some of the benefits of this type of window film include the following:

  • Visibility & Transparency: transparent safety window films are designed to be clear and barely noticeable. They will usually allow natural light into your interior; hence, you don’t have to compromise on visibility while enjoying their protection and safety benefits.

  • Privacy: some safety window films offer some level of privacy, especially for buildings with windows open to the street. Typically, burglars and other mischievous actors may look through a window to see enticing valuables or to scope out a home business space before attacking. Installing a window film that offers privacy this way makes it nearly impossible to see into your building from the outside.

  • Shatterproof: when impacted, regular Glass tends to shatter into fragments that fly in all directions, causing injury. Installing a safety window film will ensure that the glass fragments are held in place in the event of an accident or damage.

  • Security: The primary reason for installing this kind of safety film is for your security ad safety. This type of film keeps your Glass from shattering on impact. It can protect your Glass and delay a forced entry by as much as 3 minutes. An intruder will need to expend more energy and force to enter a building. You are buying valuable time that can make much difference in case of an attack.

Price of Window Security Film

Window safety is slightly more expensive than regular window tinting film. But it is still less expansive than having your window replaced entirely with laminated security glass, even though it offers a similar level of protection for your building or car. Adding a thick safety film to your windows will provide you with enough protection that is only second to having bullet-resistant Glass installed. Factors that may impact the price of a window safety film installation include:

  • The type of film
  • The thickness of the film
  • Size of your window
  • Type of panes and complexity of the project
  • Working conditions
  • Cost of removing window tint (for windows with existing tint films)
